# Why Fundwork Is Built on Base, Coinbase's Ethereum L2

Fundwork is Base-native, meaning every payment, identity, and transaction record lives on Base. Choosing Base wasn't incidental — it's central to how Fundwork delivers fast, affordable, and verifiable payments for both clients and talent.

## What Base Is

Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) blockchain built and maintained by Coinbase. It inherits Ethereum's security model while dramatically reducing transaction costs and confirmation times. Base is EVM-compatible, open to developers, and designed with mainstream consumer adoption in mind.

## Base and Your Fundwork Identity

Fundwork uses Base Account names (`.base.eth`) to identify clients and talent on completion receipts and across the platform. Your `.base.eth` name is your on-chain identity — human-readable, tied to your Base-compatible wallet, and visible to both parties in every transaction.
