# How to Apply for a Contract and Get Hired on Fundwork

> Step-by-step guide to finding a contract, reading deliverables and milestones, submitting a strong application, and getting hired on Fundwork.

Contracts are scoped projects where a client reviews all applicants and selects one person to do the work. You apply with your relevant experience and portfolio, the client makes their choice, and work begins after you're hired. Payments are released in USDC on Base as you complete each milestone.

## How to Apply

<Steps>
  <Step title="Find a contract">
    Go to [fundwork.app/explore](https://fundwork.app/explore) and select the **Contracts** filter. Browse the feed or use category tags and sorting to narrow results. When a listing catches your eye, click it to open the full opportunity page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the full listing carefully">
    Before you apply, work through every section of the listing:

    * **Overview** — the client's goals and project context
    * **Deliverables** — exactly what you need to produce
    * **Milestones** — the stages of work and the USDC amount attached to each one
    * **Duration** — the expected timeline from start to finish
    * **Posted by** — the client's `.base.eth` identity

    Make sure the scope, timeline, and milestones match what you're able to deliver before you commit.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Prepare your application">
    A strong contract application gives the client confidence that you're the right person for this specific project. Include:

    * **Relevant experience** — describe past work that's directly comparable to this project's deliverables
    * **Portfolio links** — point to examples that demonstrate the skills required
    * **Why you're a good fit** — explain your approach to this project and why your background makes you well-suited
    * **Any questions** — if anything in the listing is unclear, ask upfront

    Keep your application focused and specific to the listing rather than sending a generic pitch.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Submit your application">
    When your application is ready, submit it through the listing page. The client will see your `.base.eth` profile alongside your application text.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for the client's decision">
    The client reviews all applications and selects one person to hire. You'll be notified if you're selected. Other applicants are not automatically notified of the outcome.

    <Note>
      Only one applicant is hired per contract. If you aren't selected, keep applying — each listing is an independent decision.
    </Note>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Begin work after being hired">
    Once the client hires you, work officially begins. Follow the milestone structure laid out in the listing. Complete each milestone, submit your work for that stage, and the client approves it before the next payment is released.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What Happens After You Apply

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Client review">
    The client reads every application they receive. They may look at your Fundwork profile, your portfolio links, and your completed work history before making a decision. A complete, up-to-date profile strengthens your application.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Getting hired">
    If the client selects you, you'll receive a notification and the contract moves into active status. Review the milestone schedule once more and confirm you're aligned on expectations before you start.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Milestone payments">
    Each milestone has a defined deliverable and a USDC amount attached. When you complete a milestone and the client approves it, that payment is released to your payout address on Base. You receive an on-chain transaction hash as your receipt.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Not selected">
    If another applicant is chosen, the listing will no longer accept new applications. Continue browsing the Explore page for other open contracts that match your skills.
